YAKIMA, Wash- The Yakima Police Department wants to get the message out that residents are as important as police when it comes to keeping neighborhoods safe. They held a block watch training at the West Valley Fire rescue facility this Saturday.
A notable part of the three-hour training was the depth of the information Sergeant Cortez of YPD presented. It wasn't simply the standard 'If you see something, say something" line. The sergeant talked about the mindset and backgrounds of burglars and graffiti artists and taught the group to decode behavior that might not normally seem suspicious.
All citizens are welcome to become part of a block watch or start a new one. For more information about the program, contact the Yakima Police Department.
