YAKIMA, Wash- When most people think if the DEA drugs like marijuana and cocaine come to mind. But Saturday the DEA was calling attention to legal drugs.
Over 40 people dropped off unused or expired prescription drugs today in Yakima. It was part of a national " Prescription Take Back Day". Some don't see the danger in prescription drugs since they come from doctors. However the state attorney general's office says 500 people died in Washington in 2008 from prescription drug overdoses.
"Misuse of them or getting into the hands of minors or children that's our goal. It's a tremendous problem of having these prescription drugs getting onto the streets and being distributed into the community", said William Dodge a supervisor with the DEA.
If you missed the turn-in event today, you can drop off your old or un-used prescriptions to the Yakima DEA office during normal business hours.
