KENNEWICK, Wash.- It was standing room only at the Benton County Justice Center Monday morning. More than 160 potential jurors filled the courtroom in the first day of jury selection for the trial of Phien Sisouvanh. She's accused of killing a woman in Columbia Park and cutting the unborn baby from her womb in 2008. Sisovanh has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
The judge says 14 jurors will be selected, 12 to decide a verdict and 2 alternates. Jury selection will continue this week; lawyers hope to start presenting evidence as soon as possible, and wrap up testimony by the middle of next month.
