New judge assigned to Pasco murder trial & dates pushed back
PASCO, Wash.- A new judge has been assigned to hear the case against a Pasco man accused of murder.
Judge Craig Matheson replaces Judge Carrie Runge, who agreed to remove herself from the case after Kurtis Chapman's attorney suggested she couldn't be "fair and impartial."
Chapman is accused of strangling his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Shenay Greenough, in May. He's charged with murder for her death and manslaughter for the death of the unborn child.
Lawyers want to push the trial back to February. Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed upon continuing the trial, citing the schedule of Benton County Prosecutor, Andy Miller. Miller is investigating accusations that a detective listened to a phone conversation between Chapman and his attorney. Miller is also in the middle of prosecuting a high profile murder trial in Benton County.
