YAKIMA, Wash- A three-alarm fire in downtown Yakima got many people's attention Saturday night. It appeared to be at the lotus room nightclub on South 1st Street but the fire was actually in the building next door.
It broke out at about 11:45pm in the attic. Over five different upper valley fire agencies assisted the Yakima fire department in getting it under control. Battalion Chief Mitch Cole says it's remarkable that the building was able to be saved.
"That building should have burned down but because the fire department got up on the roof and was able to get some holes in it we were able to save that building", said Battalion Chief Mitch Cole of the Yakima Fire Department.
In fact, from the outside, you can't even tell there was a fire. No one was injured but firefighters estimate the structural damage at 100-thousand dollars. Investigators will look into the cause after the building is stable enough to enter.
