Yakima man leads YSO on car chase, crashes stolen car
YAKIMA, Wash. – Yakima County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man on multiple charges after he lead them on a chase Sunday night while intoxicated and driving recklessly.
Luis Mora Jimenez , 20, was driving erratically just after 9:00 p.m. when a YSO deputy noticed him while talking to a nearby resident. Jimenez took the stolen car, turned it toward the deputy and then drove past him and the resident, throwing gravel toward the YSO car.
Deputies drove after him south on 25th Ave. and then west on Englewood Ave. YSO caught up with Jimenez when he crashed into a telephone pole and fence in the 700 block of N. 32nd Ave., off of Castlevale Rd. Jimenez never stopped for signals or signs during the chase and forced an oncoming car to drive onto the grass to avoid a crash.
He was taken to Yakima Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Washington State Department of Corrections had an outstanding felony warrant for Jimenez and was already monitoring him.
After Sunday's chase, he was charged with eluding a police vehicle, driving with a suspended license, a DUI-minor, reckless driving, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
