RICHLAND, Wash., -- New apartments have been permitted to go up in the Tri-Cities and West Richland.  Ruth Swain, the Economic Development Director for West Richland says  "It's been many years since apartments have been built in the city. There are very limited availability, and it's a high demand and families or individuals who want apartment living, just can't find them," says Ruth Swain, the Economic Development Director for West Richland.  Vandervert Developments & Hotels will begin construction of 118 high end units at 4720 Dallas Road.

David McDonald, the Pasco City Planner says, it's been years since they've had new apartments go up.  "In Pasco we have three apartment projects going this year and one is already under construction.'    There are 72 units at 6626 Chapel Hill Blvd, put on in addition to the apartments already there, The Crossings.  12 units at 921 N. 24th Avenue and 32 units at SW corner of Wehe Avenue and Spokane.

Kennewick has one project expansion at "On the Boulevard" on 902 Gage Blvd.  32 more units are being built there.

Richland has the most apartments going up.  A total of 320.  One project is already under construction at 1529 Columbia Park Trail.  The "Island View" apartments, will have 144 units when they're finished.  East of Badger Mountain, Wolff Enterprises is putting up 176 units at 451 Westcliffe Blvd.  Richland  Development Service Manager, Rick Simon says, "it's all market driven.  The Tri-Cities has had a 1% vacancy rate in the rental market for about the past year, so there's quite a bit of pent up demand.  And the developers are taking advantage of that.'
