Reserve Deputy wanted in connection with murder arrested

Posted: Updated:

A Morrow County reserve deputy is behind bars for the murder of a Heppner woman. A spokesman for the Oregon Department of Justice says Steven Montie Crum was arrested Friday morning during a traffic stop for the murder of 30 year old Jessica Rae Killian.

Killian's body was found Monday on a farm near Ione, Oregon. Medical examiners say she was shot. A warrant for the arrest of 29 year old Steven Crum was put out Thursday.

Friday morning, Crum was arrested in Harney county during a traffic stop. The East Oregonian newspaper reports it happened in Burns.

A spokesman for the Oregon Department of Justice says they can't release more information because the investigation is ongoing.

"The Oregon Department of Justice is prosecuting the case at the request of District Attorney because out of the desire to maintain the absolute integrity of the process because the defendant is a member of law enforcement," explained Tony Green.

Crum's first court appearance will be in Morrow County Court Monday.
