PASCO, WA-How can attorneys defend a man who won't or can't help?
That's what public defenders face with Ramon Garcia Morales. He and his brother are accused of murdering a Pasco man and critically wounding his wife.
State doctors have determined Morales is competent to stand trial, but Morales hasn't spoken to his attorneys for several months.
Superior Court Judge Vic Vanderschoor Tuesday refused to appoint a Guardian ad Litem who would make decisions in Morales' best interest.
Vanderschoor also turned down one of the public defender's request to be removed from the case based on Morales' lack of cooperation.
Morales is scheduled to go to trial early next year.
