Steptoe Extension project phase one almost complete
KENNEWICK, Wash., -- Phase One of the Steptoe Extension project is near completion. Crews put down about a mile of road from Gage and Steptoe all the way to Center Parkway. The roads are not paved but the sidewalks are in and the walls are up and the details are almost complete. Steptoe runs right between Kennewick and Richland and would help connect the two cities which both pitched in for the project. Phase one cost about $4 million dollars and the entire project which would eventually connect Gage to SW 10th Street will eventually cost about $15 million. The remaining phases have yet to be funded.
Doug Jones of Doug Jones Concrete Contractors estimates will have the road paved by November 1.The engineer for the city of Kennewick, says the road should be open to the public by December 1.
