CBC students awarded with record scholarship money
PASCO, Wash. -- Columbia Basin College awarded students with a record $360,000 dollars in scholarships on Friday.
There was a lot of excitement at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco where the CBC Scholarship Award Reception was held.
245 students were awarded portions of the $360,000, an increase of $100,000 from last year. And with the increase in donations, CBC has been able to give to more students. During the first year of the foundation scholarships, only five students were honored.
The foundation has now distributed a total of more than $2 million.
Troy Colenan, a 3rd year student at CBC said, "it helps out a lot. There's a big financial burden having to pay for college, just the scholarship helps out tremendously."
2nd year student, Sergio Torres was also a recipient. He hold KNDU, "this has helped me out because then that way I can come to school full-time rather than coming part-time, because without it I wouldn't be able to be at CBC full-time like I am today."
Students were awarded scholarships for various reasons. Some were nominated, others applied, and some were honored because of their major.
