West Valley home destroyed in Saturday morning fire on Scenic Drive
WEST VALLEY, Wash. – The West Valley Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire Saturday morning that destroyed a home on Scenic Dr.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 7600 block of the street overlooking much of the Yakima Valley. The 4,000 square-feet home was covered in flames when WVFD arrived, creating a challenge for firefighters to make progress against the fire.
"From the time we got notified," said Deputy Chief Nathan Craig, "It was immediate, you could see the glow in the sky out there so it definitely had a head start on us."
The homeowner was inside at the time and says he saw the outside hot tub on fire.
It took more than an hour for crews to get the fire under control and a few more to finish clean up operations on the site. Some of the firefighters on scene would help YFD respond to a house fire Saturday afternoon on S. 70th Ave.
The home is a total loss and its estimated value is $400,000. WVFD is investigating the cause, which may take a few days to discover how the fire started.
