People walk for uncommon form of cancer in Sarg Hubbard Park
YAKIMA, Wash – Almost 100 people walked to raise money and awareness for a rare form of Cancer Saturday at Sarg Hubbard Park.
Gist cancer is found in the gastro-intestinal track and doesn't respond to traditional treatments like chemotherapy or radiation.
David Safford has this form of cancer and says the lack of information makes it hard for patients.
"It's very difficult because it's often misdiagnosed," he said. "And because it's rare, there's not many oncologists or physicians that are too familiar with it."
The walk was organized by 20 students, they helped with the setup as well. Next year the event will likely take place in the spring to separate it from other cancer fundraising efforts that fall in October.
