It's been a tough go for Yakima Valley Community College football this season. Entering its game with Columbia Basin, the Yaks have yet to find the scoreboard. The net result, and 0-3 start to the season. Hard to win if you cannot find the score sheet.
However, it would be the Yaks who would strike first in this game. Columbia Basin's Jason Hanson muffed a punt, and Yakima Valley was able to recover it late in the second quarter. Kyle Fulk then turned the turnover into points four plays later, to give the Yaks a 6-0 lead.
On the ensuing drive the Hawks asserted their will. After a nice kickoff return by Hanson, Columbia Basin drove 30 yards for the game's go ahead score. Quarterback Carlin Andrew shouldering the load on the drive, and capped it off with a rushing touchdown.
The Hawks never looked back and went onto win this game 16-14. Columbia Basin improves to 4-0 in league play this season, while Yakima Valley falls to 0-4.
