RICHLAND, Wash.—Hundreds of volunteers worked to transform Goethals Park in Richland Saturday. It was for National Make a Difference Day.
Volunteers have been preparing since the first of the year and approved a master plan in April. Once the project is complete, the nature park will offer tunnels, caves, native plants and even a tree house.
"It provides some diversity. There's always the same kind of look to the parks with the play structure but this is encouraging to kids to get out in nature and hands on and just kind of get off the trail a little bit and explore," says Hollie Logan, Organizer.
Some of the materials were donated and the rest were purchased with a $6,000 block grant fund given to the city.
Organizers hope to have the grand opening in the spring.
