KENNEWICK, Wash. -- People who live in housing complexes provided by the Kennewick Housing Authority heard the plans to ban smoking inside their homes and grounds on.
The housing authority held a meeting Tuesday afternoon to discuss the matter along with other housing authority business.
Residents like Karen Pipper say her basic rights are being stripped away, "It's our home, what we do in our home should be our business and our personal choice to do it. You know. And where does it go from here, what other choices are they going to take away from us if they're allowed to take this choice."
The board did approve the non-smoking option which is stated to begin February 1st of next year.
Under the terms of the ban, tenants do have some options and according to one of residents, the board has agreed to set up a temporary location for residents to smoke.
