Sell leftover Halloween candy to help support the troops
RICHLAND, Wash.-- For the second year in a row, local health professionals are offering to buy leftover Halloween candy from kids for a good cause.
Over a dozen doctor's and dentist's offices have teamed up to offer a dollar for every pound of leftover candy. That candy will then go to troops overseas or go directly to soldiers from our community.
Last year over 800 pounds of candy was gathered, and with more donation sites this year, the organizers hope to rake in even more than that.
"If we could get a ton of candy to come in, it gives a lot of sweet treats to the troops, it puts the candy in adult hands that hopefully know how to take care of it a little better," says Dr. Lee Ostler, a Richland dentist. "And of course it does serve a useful purpose in the war zone."
That purpose being to win over the trust and hearts of children in war torn countries.
