Political group endorses candidates, but who is the organization?
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A political organization called "The Benton County Young Republicans" has endorsed Claude Oliver, who is running for the position of Benton County Auditor.
KNDU looked into where this groups is from and exactly who they are.
Ron Hayden, the President of Benton County Young Republicans says, "we are concerned younger generation citizens. My organization targets the 16-40 year old age group. We're not exclusive to that age group, but those are the targets we're looking for."
The current membership for this new group only includes Hayden and a few close personal friends and acquaintances. The Young Republicans Group formed earlier this year however, they are not completely seeing eye-to-eye with the more established Benton County GOP.
Chairman for Benton County GOP, Patrick McBurney says, "the Young Republicans have put their name 'Benton County Young Republicans' and the way their name works it tends to give that organization higher elevation than I would really reflect."
Oliver, one of the candidates the group has recently endorsed says, "you have people that are new to the system, they're looking at both political leadership, Republican and Democrat and they're asking good questions."
While Hayden and McBurney don't agree on endorsements, both expressed the desire to work together in the future.
