Help bring Christmas to underprivileged kids

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Once again, the Salvation Army needs your help to provide gifts for children this holiday season.

Through their Angel Tree program they're trying to get gifts for 2500 kids under the age of 12, whose parents can't afford Christmas presents. That's about 500 more kids than last year. They need about 100 people to sign up to help take donations at the Angel Tree booth.

Organizers say if you've never done this before... It's a great way to connect with the community.

"And the people that you meet sitting behind the table are amazing. You have people cry, you have people teaching their kids to volunteer, all of that. It's just amazing, it's so rewarding," says Major Deanna Sholin of the Salvation Army.

If you are interested in volunteering you can call the Richland Salvation Army at 509-943-7977. Volunteers will be needed everyday starting the day after Thanksgiving and running up to Christmas day.
