YAKIMA, Wash. – Yakima police are investigating an incident that sent a woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after she tried to light her sweater on fire in the back of a police patrol car.

YPD responded to a call about a possible assault in the 1700 block of Summitview Ave. around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They were looking for potential suspects when a woman walked up to the scene, she was patted down and put in the back of the patrol car. Police were unsure of her relation to the possible domestic violence call at the time.

Officers then notice the car starting to fog up and then say the woman kicked the door of the car and saw smoke.

The woman had taken off her sweater and lit it on fire, causing the back of the car to burn as well, according to police.

She inhaled smoke while in the car and is in satisfactory condition at Harborview, as of Thursday evening.
