RICHLAND, Wash. -- If you traveled up highway 395 from Oregon today, you may have noticed a large truck carrying an enormous metal box.
The large cargo is actually a 125 ton melter being delivered to the Hanford Vitrification Plant.
Gary Olsen of the Department of Energy says getting the melter from Utah, all the way here to the Tri-cities was not easy, "There were a lot of challenges, like I said because of the size of the melter and the importance to the vitrification process, there was a lot of quality checks and design changes to enhance the unit itself."
The truck carrying the machinery got held up at the weigh station on highway 395 just north of the Oregon-Washington border.
The melter is supposed to be making its way to Richland Thursday night.
