YAKIMA, Wash. -- Bail remains at $200,000 for a 19-year-old Granger man accused of stabbing another man in Granger last week.

Nathen Bennett made his first court appearance in Yakima Monday. Bennett faces second degree murder charges. The judge ordered that his bail remain at $200,000.

His next court date is Monday, November 22.

Bennett is accused of stabbing and killing Leonardo Cantu, 48, Friday on the 100 block of W. First Avenue at about 6:50 p.m.

Yakima Sheriff's deputies stated that the Granger police arrived on the scene to find Cantu with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to Toppenish Community Hospital where he later died.

According to deputies, family members said Cantu had been outside the house smoking. After being gone for a while he showed up bleeding from stab wounds. Deputies reported that Cantu was seen in the company of Bennett, before Cantu was stabbed.

Yakima County coroner Jack Hawkins told KNDO that Cantu received multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest. Hawkins said toxicology samples have been sent up to the crime lab in Spokane. He also said it will take about 4 to 6 weeks for test results to come back to determine whether any drugs or alcohol were involved.

This is the 23rd homicide for Yakima County this year.
