State Attorney General urges FDA for alcoholic energy drink ban
After years of pushing for regulations, Attorney General Rob McKenna says the Liquor Control Board is taking a big step for public safety.
Now he's urging the Federal Drug Administration to follow suit at the national level. He says he hopes the FDA comes up with regulations to keep alcohol out of energy drinks.
He says it's unfortunate it took this long to make these strides in Washington.
"It's very sad that it took a near tragedy near Central Washington University to finally draw this kind of response from state regulators. We're awfully lucky it wasn't a fatality or several fatalities that happened," McKenna said in a phone interview.
McKenna says he hopes to hear an answer from the FDA by the end of the month.
