YSO investigates 25th homicide for countyPosted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima County Sheriff's deputies continue looking for suspects involved in a murder case that began in Sunnyside.
Deputies say Alfred Prather, 23, of Yakima was dropped off at a hospital in Toppenish Tuesday night with multiple gunshot wounds. He died a short time later.
The shooting happened on the 1700 block of Randel Road in Sunnyside.
Deputies say they were able to track down a witness from the surveillance video at the hospital.
A witness said he and Prather had gone to Sunnyside to meet someone. Deputies believe Prather was shot there and may have been hit by a car as people left the scene.
Hortencia Cuevas, who had just arrived from Seattle to visit her mother in Sunnyside that night, told KNDO they heard loud noises outside the house just moments after coming home.
"All of a sudden there was like two rounds of shots that we heard.. And kind of looked out the window... And I said mom, did you hear that? And she says, yes.. Sounds like gunshots," said Cuevas.
Cuevas said they didn't think much of the noise because the family lives out in the country, where it's common she said to hear gun shots this time of year due to hunting season.
Deputies say they've not made any arrests or have suspects at this time. They say the shooting does not appear to be gang related.
Prather's death makes this the 25th homicide for Yakima County this year.
An autopsy on Prather is scheduled for Thursday.
