Police are looking for possible child rape victims
KENNEWICK, Wash.—A 17-year-old is behind bars after Kennewick Police say he raped a child, but this isn't his first charge.
17-year-old Kristopher Alan Putnam was first arrested in April for First Degree Rape of a Child. He pled guilty. Months later an 8-year-old boy claims the same man molested him. Now police say the young boy may not have been his last victim.
"Because there are several common areas that are in that particular geographic location there is always the potential for more victims," says Detective Dramis, Kennewick Police Department.
The Sexual Assault Response Center says this is when parents should talk with their children giving them the opportunity to come forward.
SARC tips: Start a conversation on safety tips. If could be very general. Tell the child he or she won't be in trouble and has support. Remain calm. Remind them if they have been victimized it is not their fault. Don't force your child to share details if they are unwilling.
The child then may be interviewed in a safe room with a two-way mirror that allows them to only have to share their story once.
For support you can always call SARC. Their number is 374-5391. If you have any more information on this case contact Kennewick Police.
