Community Leaders read to children at Kennewick Barnes & Noble
KENNEWICK, Wash -- The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia hosted a Barnes & Noble book fair in Kennewick Saturday. A portion of all purchases went to the Children's Reading Foundation. Community leaders read aloud their favorite children books to kids. The organization is trying to raise awareness for children literacy, hoping parents read with or to their children for at least 20 minutes each day. The program's executive director, Brian Ace says "It's very important children are comfortable reading by the time they finish third grade because that's when they begin reading to learn. Those who are not comfortable reading will fall behind in their other subjects," says Ace.
