West Valley, Wash. - 15 high school ROTC teams from across the northwest were in West Valley Saturday.

They were competing in the JROTC drill and rifle meet. The teams competed in areas like physical fitness, drill and rifle exhibition. A member of the West Valley ROTC says the program helps students learn skills, school pride, and self esteem.

"The ROTC programs mission is to motivate young people to become better citizens and give our kids something to do, something to be proud of, a team to be on, and a place to belong," said Megean Peterschmidt, P.R. Officer of the West Valley JROTC.

The competition was judged by members of the Central Washington University ROTC.
