YAKIMA, Wash. – Twelve families gathered at the Juvenile Justice Center on Monday to finalize the process at a ceremony and mark National Adoption Month.
"You know he gets the chance to […] not be in foster care," said Mari Martinez, who came from Othello to watch the adoption of her 15-year-old brother, Pablo.
Eric and Loretta Franz of Yakima adopted him at the ceremony, ending a five-year wait to find Pablo a family.
"You know he gets the chance, to like, not be in foster care. His whole life, he gets to be a teenager," said an emotional Martinez, crying after the proceedings.
There have been 50 children adopted in Yakima County so far this year.
He'll get to […] do all of the things that normal teenagers should do, that I didn't get to do," she said. "They get to give him that and I think that's so amazing."
