YAKIMA, Wash. -- Washington Avenue in Yakima will be closed for two days, while crews with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway finish replacing the tracks.
Washington Avenue will be closed off to traffic from 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 23 to noon on Wednesday, November 24, between Longfibre Avenue and S. 1st Street, while BNSF crews install new concrete crossing pads. Project engineers say this will allow for a much smoother drive over the tracks.
BNSF replaced the crossing signals back in April.
Funding for the Washington Avenue - BNSF Crossing Upgrade project came from a grant provided by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Drivers can take the following alternate routes: 3rd Avenue to Mead Avenue or take Valley Mall Boulevard to get to and from S. 1st Street.
