KENNEWICK, Wash.—Thursday , November 18th a grandmother celebrated the adoption of her four grandchildren. The process started almost six years ago.
Victoria Martinez tells KNDU her daughter and her husband struggled with drug use and were unable to care for their children . Martinez knew her life was going to change.
"I remember telling myself , God , can I do this? At that time I was 42. I'm 47 now and a single parent," says Victoria Martinez, grandmother.
Almost six years ago she adopted Jeremiah-5, Kayley-7, Jay-4 and soon Leon-14 months.
Unfortunately, because of Martinez's daughter's drug use, some of the children may suffer from medical condition such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is now learning how to help each individual need.
"I had to put my selfish needs away and give up my plans to help somebody else," says Martinez.
Martinez says it has been challenging at times, however, she finds strength from the love of her family and her faith.
"I would do it over all again even if it wasn't my grandchildren. Every child deserves a forever home," says Martinez.
