PASCO, Wash.—Students take the bus to school, but how safe are your children on wet and slippery roads? KNDU researched what school bus drivers do to prepare for snow.
Bus drivers are required to take a 40-hour course that does incorporate winter driving. Every year they take a refresher course. Before drivers begin their route, they are briefed on road conditions. Then throughout the day they communicate on radio to stay updated.
Buses are equipped with all-weather tires. The size alone of the bus improves safety. Overall, taking the bus to school may be safer than driving a car.
