How school leaders decide between delay or closure
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- A school delay may sound good to students but for some school employees it means an earlier workday.
As early as 2:00am bus routes are driven, sidewalks are checked for ice and conditions are assessed. After looking at the weather report, a decision is made by Tri-Cities School Districts.
One of two outcomes will most likely take place, either a two-hour delay or cancellation. If school is canceled, it will be made up at the end of the school year. A two-hour delay still counts as a school day. The late start allows for the sun to come out and gives time for school employees to clear snow around the building.
