YAKIMA, Wash-- Yakima's winter weather is taking it's toll. The state patrol responded to 69 accidents in the city yesterday. The next two days are the busiest travel days of the year and if you are heading out the department of transportation says make sure you have an emergency travel kit in your car.
The kit should include things like water, food, a blanket, and chains. They also recommend making sure you have a full tank of gas just in case you get stuck and need to keep your car running to stay warm. Another good idea is a fully charged cell phone with car charger in case you need to call for help.
Another one of the best ways to be prepared is to check road conditions before you set out. Major traffic alerts will be listed on this website and the Washington State Department of Transportation website.
