PROSSER, Wash. -- We will finally know who is the official winner of the Benton County District Court judge race by Tuesday.
Attorney Dan Kathren holds a 13 ballot lead over his challenger Alex Ekstrom. Election workers started manually recounting ballots last week and finished today.
At his law office in Kennewick, Kathren expresses his wish for a smoother process, "Well I think the process is great. I wish there were some way, it could have gone faster but in a close race like this, it requires that sort of time. I think anytime you have two candidates who are both very qualified for the position, you're going to end up with a situation like that and that's just what we got."
A canvassing board will meet Tuesday morning to review 16 ballots that were challenged after the recount. Afterwards, the board will certify a winner in a process that's expected to take two hours.
