Central Basketball Has Local Flavor

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- This year's Central Washington basketball squad has a local flavor to it.

Two former Yakima hoopsters lace it up for the undefeated and 24th ranked Wildcats. Senior guard Humberto Perez is out of Davis High School. The starting shooting guard averages just over 11 points per game.

Then, there's junior starting point guard, Drew Harris. He was once a star at Ike. Harris and Perez spent many days back in high school playing with and against each other. Now, the two share the back court at Central Washington.

"I think people from the [Yakima] Valley can dribble, pass, shoot, and play defense," said Harris. "We're overall players."

"I'm used to playing with Drew," said Perez. "It's been a great experience to get to play with him on a real team now, just getting back on the same squad. Two Valley players are representing for Yakima."

"He's a real good shooter and I know where he likes to shoot the ball from," said Harris "He makes it a lot easier as a point guard."

Central Washington will put its 7-0 record to the test this Saturday, December 11th on the road at Saint Martin's.
