Yakima City Council delays YFD layoffs, uses reserve funds
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima City Council voted 4 to 3 on Tuesday to approve a proposal for the 2011 budget that would combine pay cuts at the fire department and reserve funds to avoid layoffs.
The proposal includes a three-percent pay cut by YFD in addition to using one-third of the city's $700,000 in reserve funds. Two firefighters and an office secretary will keep their job, overtime will be reinstated, and funding for a deputy fire marshall position will remain under this plan.
