PASCO, Wash -- A Franklin County judge must decide whether to dismiss charges against a Pasco man accused of murdering his former girlfriend and her unborn child.

Kurtis Chapman was arrested last May, and charged with murder for the death of 19 year old Shenay Greenough. She was pregnant at the time. Police found her body in the crawl space under Chapman's Pasco home.

Shortly after Chapman's arrest, a detective listened to a taped jailhouse phone conversation between Chapman and his attorney. The detective copied the tape and later played it to several other officers.

Chapman's attorney says the conversation included possible defense strategies and witnesses. He says the detective violated Chapman's sixth amendment rights. Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller investigated the officer's actions and says he found no evidence of deceit or dishonesty.

Judge Craig Matheson will study the arguments and case law before deciding whether detectives violated Chapman's civil rights and whether it merits throwing out the charges.

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Kennewick Police have made an arrest in a homicide case from 1982. Rose Baugh was killed in her Kennewick home back on March 7th, 1982. The case went cold until 2005.

Police, with the help of modern technology, were able to arrest 56 year old Jack Welch today (Tuesday).

PROSSER, Wash. -- Dan Kathren has been declared the winner in a manual recount for Benton County District Court Judge. Only 15 votes separated him from challenger, Alex Ekstrom. (Kathren = 25,057...Ekstrom = 25,042)

Election workers finished the hand recount Monday and the Benton County Canvassing Board certified those results Tuesday. This election was the first countywide hand recount since the Auditor's Office began using digital scanning equipment to tabulate votes.
