ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- The Central Washington Wildcats have leapt their way from 24th to 12th in the latest coaches poll, their 2nd highest ranking ever while in the Division II ranks.
That ranking has come with a 7-0 start, the team's best in 17 years, and it has the Cats believing that this is their year to win a conference title.
Central had come close to winning its first ever GNAC conference championship in each of the past 4 seasons
Despite all the winning, the Cats aren't feeling the pressure.
"I don't think there's pressure," said Central Head Coach Greg Sparling. "I think the kids are going to step up to the calling. I think when the Western's and SPU's come rolling in here, they know what's riding on it. They all want to win a GNAC title."
"It's our last go around and everyone just wants to play," said Senior Guard Humberto Perez. "We don't want to have any regrets at the end of the year."
