YAKIMA, Wash. -- Hundreds of Families got more than just fruits and vegetables at Thursday's 2nd Harvest food truck event at Grace Lutheran Church in Yakima.
Families received packages of beef from Agri Beef Company's WA Beef facility in Toppenish.
One woman we spoke to was excited about receiving the packages of beef. Mainly, because of how much it costs to buy at grocery stores and said it will save her a lot of money.
The Beef Counts program includes contributions made by Washington ranchers from all across the state. The program aims at providing enough beef protein to families in need.
2nd Harvest leaders said the program only does about 170 donations per year. However, due to excessive need this year they will be doing more than 200 food donations.
Approximately 575 families showed up and received about 25,000 lbs. of food, and about 1,725 pounds of packaged beef.
