Move over or pay up

Posted: Updated:

The Washington State Patrol reports in the past several years more than 80 emergency vehicles have been slammed into while parked along the highway.

Starting January 1st an enhanced law will be put into place to keep emergency workers safer.

It builds on an earlier "move over law" created in 2007; however, the enhanced version will double the fine if you're speeding or fail to move over when passing through an emergency zone.

Troopers say there will be a 90 day education period before giving out tickets, but after that, you must move over or slow down when you see emergency flashing lights on the side of the road, or face a $300 fine.
