Shooting victim seeks help at a convenience store

YAKIMA, Wash- A Yakima man is in serious condition this afternoon after being shot in the chest Monday morning.

A convenience store owner said the victim staggered through the front door of his store asking for help just after 11am.  The owner then called 911.

Police responded to Said's Market and Deli on North 8th and D streets but they believe the shooting happened somewhere in the neighborhood.  They searched the neighboring streets for blood or other signs of a shooting.  Police say the victim is a 22-year-old Hispanic male with gang ties.  According to them he is not cooperating with the investigation, and refuses to provide them with any information.

"There's a lot of different angles that we'll take on this, first thing we're going to do is take a look at what we've got at the scene, which at this point frankly is not much.  And then we'll take a look at some likely hot spots just in this area where we know we've had gang activity in the past", says Lieutenant Mike Merryman of the Yakima Police Department.

Lt. Merryman said it's unclear why the victim won't give law enforcement any information but his unwillingness to cooperate makes a difficult case to investigate even harder.
