Driver Arrested in Fatal Accident Near Hermiston

HERMISTON, Ore. - Oregon State Police have arrested the driver involved in a fatal accident near Hermiston Sunday night. Police say they found 25 year old Luis Lopez Morales hiding at a home in Umatilla Monday night. Morales was booked into the Umatilla County Jail on multiple charges, including an ICE hold.

Police say Morales crossed the center line Sunday night on Highway 395 north of Hermiston hitting a SUV with a family of four inside. Morales and a passenger, identified as Nolberto Gonzalez Bernal of Umatilla, ran after the crash leaving another passenger in the car. 33 year old Moises Arroyo Hernandez from Umatilla was found in the car and taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston where he was pronounced dead.

The family in the other car was taken to Good Shepherd and are expected to be OK.
