10 cars lose control on Interstate 182 due to freezing rain
PASCO, Wash. -- Police say freezing rain is the reason 10 cars lost control this morning on Interstate 182.
Police and witnesses say the freezing rain lasted just a few minutes but the 10 cars all slid off the road simultaneously at the same spot. Police say there was one rollover that sparked the chain reaction.
"One rollover. Single car rollover. She spun out on the ice. It sounds like there were no other vehicles around her," says Pasco Police Officer Flanagan. "Her actions then caused people to start slamming on their brakes, obviously at speeds close to 60 mph which created the chain reaction."
Thankfully nobody was hurt in this accident but traffic was reduced to one lane. All 10 cars slid off the road in under 2 minutes. Police warn in conditions like this try not to slam on the brakes, instead slowly and gradually apply pressure to the brakes.
