Kennewick bike shop hosts mobile bike clinics

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash --The owner of Chain Reaction Bike Shop in Downtown Kennewick is hoping a start a chain reaction of his own, one that helps kids.

Daren Fairweather started a program called Mobile Bike Clinic.  He collects old bicycles, and then he and his friends teach a child how to rebuild them.  The children get a new bike and a sense of purpose.

"Since I've opened up, people have been coming here,  rather than the dump or landfill or to the scrap metal yards, They're actually bringing me their old bikes.   We've had a few friends that come in and they just like working on bikes.  They've donated some hours here building these bikes with kids and I help them out with parts," says Fairweather.

The program started at the Othello store and now the Old Hotel Art Gallery hosts a Mobile Bike Clinic every first Wednesday of the month there.

If you know of a business that would be interested in hosting the Mobile Bike Clinic, please contact Daren Fairweather at 509-572-5898 or email

Also if you know of a person or child in need of a donated bike, arrangements can be made at the Mobile Bike Clinic.
