Battle of the Bands hopes to raise money for Sunnyside HS
SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - A senior at Sunnyside High School hopes live performances from various bands will inspire her community to help more students enjoy creating and playing music.
Christine Kim is organizing a battle of the bands for her senior project. Proceeds will go to the music department at her school, which doesn't have the budget to buy new instruments or supplies at the moment.
"We listen to all different types of genres, it affects us in ways," said Kim about the importance of music. "We listen to it when we're happy, mad, or sad and I just think people should be able to hear our youth being able to create also."
The event is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27. Kim is still registering bands to compete from across the Yakima Valley and Mid-Columbia. There is a cash prize of $200 for the winning band.
Kim is also looking for local businesses to offer their support for the event and the music program.
