KENNEWICK, Wash.—A 20-year-old man was shot in the stomach at a gravel lot near Union street just after 2:00pm Thursday. He was later found on the ground in the HAPO Community Credit Union parking lot in Kennewick.
Police say Miguel Montenegro was shot by a rival gang member, 20-year-old Jose Cardona. Cardona ran but was later found walking behind Winco Foods at Clearwater and Union.
The 22 caliber riffle used in the shooting was found behind a business on Clearwater. Police say it is related to two gang shootings that happened in Pasco Wednesday and Tuesday this week.
The victim was taken to the hospital but has no life-threatening injuries. Montenegro had emergency surgery to remove the bullet. He is in stable condition.
Cardona is being held on three felony charges, assault first degree, possession of a stolen firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Police believe several other people may have been involved. If you were a witness or have any information you are asked to contact Kennewick Police.
