Kennewick, Wash. - The Tri-City Water Follies may not be top of mind right now, but even though it's winter organizers are keeping busy. Each year thousands of hydro fans come out to the Columbia River to enjoy all the festivities and although it's still 7 months away the planning has already started.
"Looking for sponsors and renewing sponsors for last year. We are very fortunate to bring Lamb Weston and Hapo back for 2011," said Kathy Powell, with the Tri-City Water Follies.
Powell says they also stay busy by filling out paperwork, getting licenses and of course planning the air show.
"We went to Las Vegas to the I-Cast to work on the air shows. We are actually communicating with the Air Force to see if a jet team has been committed to our event and then we signed up a couple of other acts," said Powell.
But they are also working with the city of Kennewick for upgrades. "We are planning on doing some upgrades in the park so we are putting together our plans and volunteers and strategy to get those upgrades done," said Powell.
Some of those enhancements include upgrading the communication system for workers and enhancing the speakers. "We noticed the speakers are getting worse and worse. The sound is bad and so we are going to evaluate each one of the speakers and hopefully put volume controls on each individual speaker so we can have good quality sound in the park during the event," said Powell.
