KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A gang shooting off Union Street in Kennewick Thursday has neighbors worried. Kennewick Police say they are doing everything they can to prevent gang violence; two detectives have dropped everything to focus on the shooting. They are still looking for other people who may have been involved, or anyone with information.
Watching for gang activity is nothing new. Kennewick police say they look for it in high schools, respond to any tips, and monitor any violence. But they say they are limited.
Officer Michelle Pitts says, "If they happen to run into each other at the mall guess what? It's going to happen at the mall and your family might be in the middle of it, so not just the help of law agencies but it's got to be our citizens as a community. We need to put our foot down and say 'no more.'"
The shooter, 20 year old Jose Cardona is not a new face to law enforcement. It's been reported that he was with a Pasco man who was shot and killed by a rival gang member in April 2009. Then in June 2009, he was shot in a drive-by shooting at the Kamiakin Apartments in Kennewick. He was then shot again at a Pasco apartment complex on Sylvester street. He is now booked into the Benton County Jail.
