KENNEWICK, Wash.--  The Kennewick Police Department swore in its newest officer Monday.

Joe Santoy is originally from Grandview, but worked with Bellevue police before moving to Kennewick.   In the past, he also was with the Department of Corrections in Renton, specializing in working with gang members.  Santoy says, "I'm trying to bring the little expertise that I have about gangs in Renton, trying to bring it back over to Kennewick and try to make it fit this team.  Gang members are not necessarily bad people.  They need to be talked to and see what they're focuses are and different routes they can take."  Santoy says one of his goals this year is to learn to speak Spanish.

This isn't a new police position for Kennewick, Santoy is replacing another officer.
