Phase 1 of Steptoe Extension Project still not complete
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Phase one of the Steptoe Extension Project that started at Gage Boulevard in Richland and Kennewick was supposed to be completed by the beginning of December, but the new road is still closed at the start of 2011. Steptoe starts on Gage Blvd. and ends at Center Parkway, and it will be closed until March 1st.
The Kennewick Municipal Services Executive Director says winter weather got in the way and they still have some landscaping to finish. However, the entire Steptoe Extension Project is in three phases and the other phases are not yet funded. The entire road is eventually going to end at 10th Avenue, and it will eventually connect with another road extension project underway on the other side of town.
"We have another project that's called Hildebrand Boulevard and that goes from (Highway) 395 and it connects into 10th Avenue into what we call the "five corners area". And so that will be connected once its all completed, then you'll be able to go from (state Route) 240 to (Highway) 395 in a just big loop there," said Exec. Director, Peter Beaudry.
The Hildebrand Boulevard project is already mostly funded, and Beaudry says he hopes to have both of these projects completed and the highways connected by 2013, it all depends on funding.
